Open the Mail app and press the inbox you’d like to remove its unread count from. Tap Edit on the top row. Choose Trash All (or its less-fun counterpart, Mark All).

Simply go to ”settings”, enter your Google account email and password, and then select the boxes for “mail, contact, calendars” as well. Make sure the box for “Ask before deleting” is selected to ON in the settings box for ‘mail’.

In the message list, select and remove consecutive emails by clicking the first email, pressing and holding the Shift key while clicking the last email, and then pressing Delete.

You can “hard delete” a message by pressing and holding the SHIFT button while clicking on the Delete button or using your keyboard’s Delete key. This message will now bypass the Deleted Items folder and be permanently removed.

Please assist! In Apple Mail, go to Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors and check your settings there. Check to see whether changing any of the “Trash” preferences improves the situation. You must select a message and then click the Delete button in order to remove it.
